Death knell for Philippine languages, the resurrection of our resolve for self-determination and subsidiarity.

SABBATICAL NOTES. 8 JULY 2014. TUESDAY. N1.
Death knell for Philippine languages, the resurrection of our resolve for self-determination and subsidiarity.

SO MANY OF OUR leaders do not have the creative imagination to think of a nation state premised on diversity.

The thinking--as in the case of this proposed law to 'expand' the teaching of Filipino so that the lobotomization of all peoples of the Philippines shall be made complete--does not recognize the natural character of the country, with plurilingualism the normal way of life of most citizens in the periphery. The only exception to the rule are the oligarchs and the academics and all their servants, and these oligarchs and academics and servants are all ministers of that god we call the Hegemon.

The Hegemon is an ideal realized as a monolingual nation state.

We go back to Plato, we go back to Hegel, and all we see is this idea of The Idea of a country that does not respect to the full the experiences of others except the experience of the center.

We are going the route to the extinction of diversity as we hear with more clarity the death knell of other Philippine languages not blessed by the blessing-giver

The Hegemon is at it again, and it has allies in universities funded by the sweat and labor and sacrifices and dreams of our people.
