Um, there's absolutely nothing wrong with hoping some among our Filipino writers would aspire to write at a level worthy of a Nobel, is there? I've read a couple of those written by the Japanese Nobel laureates and I distinctly remember Yasunari Kawabata's gorgeous and poetic writing in "Snow Country", a book about love and loss of love which could have just unfolded as regional literature. I happen to think that there are some Filipino writers who are capable of painting the scenes that Kawabata lyrically transforms to life in this particular novel.
