babaong 1. (the act of) waiting before the meal begins 2. the period after having sat on the table and the start of the meal 3. the moment prior to the formal start of the meal: it may include the saying of grace in the old Ilokano way: ‘Degdegam, Apo, ti lames ti daga ken ti taaw tapno manayon ti panagbiagmi iti inaldaw-aldaw.’—‘You multiply, O Lord, the fish of the land and the sea in order to make everlasting our everyday life.’
